Nikko and Sake

Home scale sake factory

When we talked about japanese, we can separate sake from them. They drink sake in any occassions and they loved sake very much. So thats why, it was very interesting when there was program to visit sake factory, even if i do not drink sake.

We visited Sake Factory, and this is traditional home industry factory. A young man in picture below is the owner, 7th generation sake owner :).

7th generation owner

This sake factory establish since year 1800. Such a long time :) . This sake factory smelt like "Tape Ketan", because sake was made from fermented rice. Microorganism called "Koji" in japanese helps the fermentation process, or in scientific name its one kind of Aspergillus.

I saw many storage drums for sake liqour and rice.They made big storage, because they produce sake in winter only. The winter climate fully support the fermentation process. It said, there are some modern sake factory , but the traditional sake product have better taste. Altough, this is home scale factory, they have small laboratorium and good quality checker to ensure they produce quality sake.

Oh ya, in this factory trip. We also met the 6th generation owner. When I said i came from Indonesia, he asked me to sing "bengawan solo" song together. Oh ashamed to my self, i dont know how to sing that song except the tittle.

After factory trip, we have free time to visit nikko city. Nikko is one of famous historical place in Japan. long time ago, Nikko its japan capital city . So thats why, there are many imperial places and historical sites here. Unesco also declared nikko as national heritage of japan. But since we got only 2 hours free time, we decided not to enter the imperial palace and only took some picture in main gate and some beautiful spot in nikko city.
